International Women's Day
Friday 8th March 2024
On Friday 8th March, we celebrated International Women’s Day 2024. The campaign theme this year is Inspire Inclusion. We have championed this theme in school and promoted the idea that when we inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, we forge a better world. When women themselves are inspired to be included, there's a sense of belonging, relevance and empowerment. The children have spoken with their class teachers about why we celebrate IWD, learning about some of the history behind it.
Furthermore, as part of the #letgirlsplay football campaign, Miss Smith and Miss Newman have taken a group of girls from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 to an IWD girls’ football event in conjunction with Chesterfield Football Club at Staveley. Our Year 6 girls’ football team competed in the Regional Cup Finals, representing Derbyshire. Although we did not win the Regional Cup, we were nominated as the best Girls' Football team - an award that the girls went on to win.
We also have a number of girls who have recently achieved outstanding accolades in sport outside of school who we would like to congratulate as part of International Women’s Day:
Olivia J in Year 4 competed at the English Weightlifting national age group championships. She did amazingly well in securing first place to win a gold medal. Well done Olivia!
Darcey T in Year 3 went to Loughborough University to take part in a Cheerleading competition. Her team came first and Darcey, who is the youngest in the team, competed for the first time in cheerleading in the 9-11 elite division. Fantastic work Darcey!
Emily M in Year 5 represented Derbyshire in athletics in the under 11’s at the East Midland Regional Finals. Her team won the U11 girls category in the obstacle relay, speed bounce and 4 x2 lap run. Amazing Emily!
