Dronfield Flyover Mural Unveiling
On Sunday 20th July, the Dronfield Underpass Street Art Mural was opened. This was a celebration of creativity, environmental awareness, and the diverse local community of Dronfield.
Pupils from our school, along with other Dronfield schools, played a key role in shaping the creative ideas and painting of the mural.
PC Julian Matthews has led the mural partnership project. We simply wanted to highlight an exciting additional element being promoted as part of the event – the Big Butterfly Count, a UK-wide citizen science campaign that runs from 18 July to 8 August.
As families walk through the underpass and explore the mural – which stretches between the underpass and the bridge pillars – we are encouraging them to participate in the Count.
Beyond the event itself, this campaign provides a valuable Personal, Social, Health & Economic (PSHE) learning opportunity for schools. It encourages children to connect with nature, contribute to a national environmental initiative, and reflect on the importance of biodiversity and inclusion.
This location, once marred by racist and extremist graffiti, has been transformed through this collaborative project. It now stands as a vibrant and meaningful space celebrating Dronfield’s multicultural identity and shared community values.
