On completion, the tests are sent to external markers.  Pupils’ raw scores and scaled scores are usually published in early July.  Once received, these scores are then reported to you.  We will report whether your child has attained the ‘expected standard’ in reading, writing, mathematics, grammar, punctuation and spelling.  A child’s attainment in writing is assessed by the teacher, following moderation within: the Y6 team in school, the Partnership of Dronfield Schools (PODS) and the Local Authority.

Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)

The multiplication tables check (MTC) is statutory for all year 4 pupils registered at state-funded maintained schools in England.

The MTC is focused on the fluent recall of multiplication facts. This is included in the national curriculum (2014) statutory programme of study for mathematics at key stage 1 (KS1) and KS2.

The MTC is delivered as an online, on-screen digital assessment. Under standard administration, the check will take each pupil less than 5 minutes to complete. It will be automatically scored, and results will be available to schools once the assessment window closes.

The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.

Y4 Multiplication Tables Check in 2025

In 2025, schools must administer the MTC to all eligible year 4 pupils between Monday 2 June and Friday 13 June.

The Standard Testing Agency usually produce a document for parents who have children in Y4 who will take the Multiplication Tables Check in June.  Below is a link to last year's document; this will be updated when the 2025 version is available.
